i had to be at the studio for 6am.

4:50am left the house on my bike. it's POURING OUT. i've never seen so much rain. And it's freezing cold.

5:40am i get a flat tire. shit. i ditch my bike and have to grab a taxi which i can't afford.

5:55am arrive to the studio. early and frozen.

i recently bombed an audition for equus.

maybe not bombed, but clearly will not get hired.

I did some serious rehearsal of a last minute british accent as requested... and some thorough work on the character.

BUT the director is known for his work in ballet, and i assume he will hire a more graceful and movement trained actor than i.

The production will be staged at Montreal's Segal Theatre, and directed by the genius domy reiter-soffer

i was really lucky to have gotten to audition for it.

READ THIS PLAY and go see it in Montreal next year.

my best auditions, happen when i'm on auto-pilot. i have no self awareness.

I practice each moment over-and-over-and-over, until I'm at the point where I can hear the line "Where are you going to go?" and I'm triggered with an emotion, and reply, "I don't know." There's no thinking involved. It just drives itself.

i love that.

that was my audition yesterday.

it took A LOT of work to get there though.

i have two pretty great auditions ahead of me. first, i'm auditioning for a guest starring role tomorrow. 9 pages.

i'm not focusing too much on the breakdown, but more importantly what I will bring to it.

i also need to pick the pace up, so the words come quickly.

i refuse to do a mediocre audition.

i go to the same gym as sarah polley.

i've toyed with the idea of casually starting conversation with her.

But then, I actually saw a guy do it.

I was running the track, and passed just at this moment

15 seconds later, when I passed by them again, he had completely vanished.

Anyway, I just saw SPLICE tonight. You need to see this movie. Sarah Polley and Delphine Chanéac were perfect, and the writing was incredible.

I'm good at knowing the direction that a movie is going, and I thought I had this one figured out from all of the trailers and clips that have been around.

But it left me shocked.

Go see it.

In 2009, Partizan Films (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep) came from France to Toronto to cast for their new feature.

The film not only brought me back to my hometown for the six week shoot, but right back to my old school. The place where I started acting.

The film was just awarded Best Narrative Feature at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival, and will be released on the 23rd. The acting/directing is INCREDIBLE>

a couple of weeks ago i got to meet guy maddin.

i was brought in to read for one of the lead roles in his new feature, keyhole.

seriously this guy is a genius.

roger ebert listed his film, my winnipeg as one of the top 10 films of the decade.

i was 24hours late for my audition, also at one point i thought he threw my headshot & resume in the trash.

the writing is incredible!

1. i tripped up in the lines.
2. i didn't really have a good idea of how i was playing the character.
3. when the cd asked me to do one scene again, i did it the same way as the first time i'd done it.
DO IT DIFFERENT THE SECOND TIME!

there were some good, solid actors who were also auditioning for character, which i why i think my chance is zero.

i bet they were better prepared.

something weird happened.

my roomates and i have a huge collection of vhs tapes. last night, i put in a movie called MY LEFT FOOT, starring daniel day lewis.

daniel's performance was insane. completely amazing. if you are an actor, watch this movie.

i looked up the director on imdb and saw it was a guy named jim sheridan.

this morning my agent called me an said i had an audition for tomorrow for a film called Dream House, directed by........... jim sheridan.

weird.

the character is intensely passionate and slightly delusional. i can't WAIT!!!!

even if i don't get it, i need to blow this role out of the water.

i used to get insanely nervous before an audition. i could hardly handle it.

if only i could relax, i would probably be great.

then one day i realized i'm a better actor when i'm nervous.

being 100 % perpared and being really really nervous = brillance.

in other news, my trip home to PEI is not going to happen. I don't even want to talk about it.

On another note...

i've been realizing that there are like three casting directors in the city that do not audition me. ever.

i was talking to another actor the other day, and i they told me about a casting office that they regularly audition at, but i've never auditioned there.

one of the main jobs of an actor, is to build a relationship with the casting directors in your city. this relationship is crucial... my career depends on it.

i spent the whole weekend pumping myself up for the fact that i probably booked the bud light job. unfortunately, i wouldn't hear back until monday.

monday's over. nothing.

why didn't I get it?

My plans at this point, are to leave the city tomorrow night (Tue) for a visit to PEI. I can't get out of here fast enough. I really have to stop postponing this visit. My mental health depends on it.

I had an audition for an LG commercial today, so i might get a call back tomorrow. Meaning, i'll be here for another day or two.

My family lives on the east coast, in a place called Prince Edward Island. I have not been home since Dec '08. I'm dying to get there.But for some reason or another things keep getting pushed.

Friday, I had two auditions. Both were for commercials. I hate commercial auditions, more than anything. Luckily, I haven't had to go on any in a while. But Friday, I had two.

The first audition was actually a call back for a US National Bud Light series of commercials. $$$

The second, a commercial demo called Young Guns, which will never actually air, but looks like it could be pretty cool.

The thing was, I had 30 minutes to get from one audition to the next, which happend to be across town. The fastest way would be for me to bike. Not a problem.

I arrive early for the Bud Light commercial.

I am auditioning with two other actors. The audition begins really bad. The first 20 seconds, its a boring mess. I occasionally get called to do comedy, because of my look. But comedy is hard, it's really hard. The audition started bad, but ended really well. I thought it'd be funny to pretend to pee on the wall. nobody laugh.

I hop on my bike, and race across town. Of course, of course it starts raining. Pouring actually. I am the only actor who always shows up at an audition looking like a dirtbag. For some reason I chose to wear this 80's paint stained t-shirt, which I'd been wearing actually all week, (I'm still wearing it) I just like that shirt.

I arrive to the audition, sign in. This audition, has a sort of horror feel, and my character gets his foot caught in a bear trap, while being chased through the woods at night. Sounds like a typical day.

This is the stuff that I'm good at... drama/horror. Perhaps it's a good thing that I look like a mess. The audition is quick, I do alright.

Friday night, my agent calls and says that Bud Light wants to confirm my availability for the shoot dates. This is a very good sign for a commercial audition. I'll be sticking around town I guess till Monday to hear back. Otherwise, I'm outta here.
